Redevelopment Project

We are working on plans to reinvigorate the Museum with a wholesale redisplay and reinterpretation of the collections as well as more focus on the wonderful Grade 1 listed Moot Hall, which houses both the Museum and Aldeburgh Town Council.

Update September 2017

In early 2017 we were pleased to to announce that HLF initial funding of £77,000 has now been confirmed for the Aldeburgh Museum Redevelopment Project. This enabled the Museum and Council team to start work on the development phase of the project - detailed planning for major improvements to the display and interpretation of the Museum’s collections and the Grade 1 listed Moot Hall. We aim to make the Moot Hall both a Museum and working Council Chamber fit for the 21st Century

Since then we have:

  • Appointed a project manager. Julian Ayre, who will lead the project through to completion

  • Appointed designers, Hudson's Architects of Norwich, who will design the new displays

  • Appointed consultants, Oakmere Solutions, who will help us develop what is known as an Activity Plan. This will specify the range of activities, events, and services which, alongside new exhibitions, will help tell the Aldeburgh story and encourage more, and a wider range of, people to get involved.

A concept design has now been produced by our designers, Hudson's.  This is based around a number of themes covering life in Aldeburgh over the centuries as well as the construction and history of the 16 century Moot Hall and its importance to the Town.  You can have a look at this concept design here CONCEPT DESIGN AUGUST 2017

We would very much appreciate it if you would let us know your views on our designs.  Please do so by completing a survey HERE.
